Bristol hosts NatWest/RBS Franchise Seminar

With the franchise industry's turnover increasing to £11.8 billion at the height of the economic downturn – with 94% of franchisors optimistic about the future - it is no wonder that franchising is an attractive option for those thinking of developing their business.

Finding your way through the overwhelming amount of information to see if this is the right way forward for you, can however be more difficult. To help, and in direct response to the popularity of previous events, NatWest and RBS hosted a Franchise Seminar in Bristol yesterday.

The event followed on from the £100m Franchise fund recently launched by NatWest/RBS, which could finance up to 180 new franchise businesses and 2,400 new jobs in the South West (based on typical start-up costs and franchisees typically employing around 13 staff).

The free, three-hour seminar was attended by local business men and women interested in franchising their business. Presentations were given by Kevin Noble, Director of NatWest and RBS Franchise Development, who gave advice on business planning and how to approach a bank to raise finance for franchising, as well as an overview of the sector as a whole. He was joined by Bill Hendrie from The Franchise Development Centre, who looked at the right and wrong reasons to franchise, reasons some fail, and what professionals and prospective franchisees look for in a franchise. Bill Hull from TLT Solicitors was also on hand to outline why a franchise agreement is important, the key areas to consider, and the dangers of not using a qualified solicitor affiliated to the British Franchise Association. Following the presentations the guests held a round table question-and-answer session.

The franchising industry has shown itself to be virtually recession proof, and, as a result, getting involved with a franchise is an attractive option.
