European banks would still need state bail out in new financial crisis: Gallo

Despite efforts to improve European banks’ capital positions, their buffers are still too small, creditor bail-ins too low and emergency resolution mechanisms are still inadequate, says Alberto Gallo, head of European Macro Credit Research at RBS.

He warns that the array of new national and regional regulations is not yet strong enough to insulate governments from the losses that could arise from a system-wide failure.
