Accounting software simplified. FreeAgent makes it easy for small business owners and freelancers to manage their books, relax about tax and get on with the work they love.
FreeAgent is designed to help UK small business owners and freelancers stay on top of their finances.
Since 2007, FreeAgent has been helping customers take care of their day-to-day business admin: from managing expenses, tracking time and submitting tax returns through to creating and sending professional-looking estimates and invoices.
- First UK online accounting software to enable users to submit Self Assessment returns directly to HMRC
- First UK online accounting software to provide Open Banking data feeds
FreeAgent was launched in 2007 by three freelancers - Ed Molyneux, Olly Headey and Roan Lavery - who were frustrated with spreadsheets and wanted a better method of managing their business admin. Originally designed for freelancing businesses like the ones that they ran, FreeAgent had a very simple goal: to make accounting and bookkeeping as painless as possible.
Since then, the software has evolved to suit a wide range of small business types and is now regarded as one of the country’s leading accounting software systems. Meanwhile, the company has grown from a three-person startup into an established fintech leader, employing more than 240 people in its Edinburgh headquarters and across the UK.
In 2018, FreeAgent was acquired by NatWest Group, the culmination of a business journey that previously included a successful £1m equity crowdfunding round and public listing on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM).
FreeAgent is an official partner of the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator, which provides support for thousands of startup and early-stage businesses each year across the UK.
FreeAgent is also a partner of the Freelancer & Contractor Services Association (FCSA), the leading trade association for providers of professional employment services, such as accountancy, payroll and umbrella services.
