Group Chief Risk Officer
Bruce is the Group Chief Risk Officer, a position he has held since October 2018. Bruce is responsible for leading the Risk function, defining and overseeing the risk, conduct, compliance and financial crime strategies for the Group, and encompassing policy, governance, frameworks, analysis and insights.
Bruce is also involved in a number of industry activities. He is a Non-Executive Director of the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association (PRMIA), which is a non-profit professional association operating with chapters in 46 cities around the world. He serves on the Financial and Risk Policy Committee of UK Finance, and represents the Group on the Bank of England’s Climate Financial Risk Forum.
Over a 35 year career Bruce has worked in commercial and retail banking in both the UK and USA, specialising in Risk Management. Prior to his current role, Bruce served as a Group General Manager at HSBC, where he was the Chief Risk Officer for the Global Retail Banking and Wealth Management Business. He previously served as their Chief Risk Officer for Europe, with responsibility for managing risk across a diversified set of businesses which operated in 19 countries, and acted as a Non-Executive Director at several of their businesses in Turkey, Bermuda and the UK.
His career includes 17 years at Citibank; in his final role he was Managing Director and Senior Credit Officer in their Global Consumer Credit and Fraud Risk Management Office. Over a five year period he oversaw a range of international businesses and product lines, and helped to integrate a number of acquisitions.
