The Ryder Cup commemorative £5 note, 2014

This note was issued on 22 September 2014, to celebrate the holding of the Ryder Cup at the famous Gleneagles golf course in Perthshire in that month.

 

This was the first European banknote to be printed on hybrid paper, a combination of traditional cotton and modern plastic polymers. It was the Royal Bank of Scotland’s third banknote to celebrate Scottish golf. Special features included:

 

  • images of the Ryder Cup, Gleneagles Hotel and the 9th hole of the Gleneagles golf course
  • the Ryder Cup official logo
  • serial numbers with the prefix RCE, standing for Ryder Cup Europe
