New Scottish Parliament commemorative £1 note, 1999

This note marked the first meeting of the new Scottish Parliament, re-formed nearly 300 years after it last sat in 1707.

 

Features included:

 

  • saltire design in the border and the words 'Scottish Parliament Building' in the font used by the architect
  • silhouette of the Church of Scotland Assembly Hall, where the Parliament met before its permanent home was built
  • the date of the first meeting
  • vignette of the Parliament's temporary home, contrasted with an aerial view of the new building, not yet built when this note was issued.
