Our commitment to developing young people

To mark this year’s National Careers Week, Sandra Beattie, Talent Acquisition Lead for Early Careers at RBS blogs about how we champion the potential of our graduates, interns and apprentices.

To be ready for the future, we need the right people, with the right skills doing the right work and we’re committed to working with education partners, influencers and teachers to help understand and build the skills needed for the workplace.

We’re proud to have more than 1000 graduates and apprentices on one of our Early Careers programmes with another 900 joining our family in 2020.

Our commitment to developing young people is clear. We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve already done but we know we can do lots more.

One of the many ways we demonstrate our passion for young people’s development is by sponsoring National Careers Week – we’re pleased to throw our support behind this nationwide initiative for the fifth year running. With National Careers Week 2020 just around the corner, now’s a great time to celebrate the success of our programmes and the success of every person on one our programmes.

2019 was a phenomenal year!

1. We climbed the Times Top 100 Graduate Employer rankings for the fourth year running and we’re now at number 25.

2. We launched our Career Kickstart website; full of fantastic resources to help young people understand the options in front of them.

3. We built an innovative (and award winning) game called ‘Find Your Path’; designed to help students identify which of our opportunities is best for them.

4. We designed our new Digital and Innovation Degree Apprenticeship to support young people from under-represented backgrounds

We’re excited to build on this success in 2020 and beyond.

Each programme offers a dedicated learning journey; making sure everyone experiences different parts of the bank and learns about all our customers.

Candidates don’t need any previous experience of banking to apply for any of our opportunities. We’re passionate about making sure young people benefit from dedicated development, meaningful experiences and professional qualifications; getting their careers off to a flying start.

Providing career and learning opportunities for everyone starting their career is one of the most important things we can do – and National Careers Week is the perfect time to shout out about it!
