A series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey and north-west Syria killing thousands of people and injuring many more. Thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools, have collapsed and infrastructure has been badly damaged.

People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, with humanitarian needs expected to grow in the coming days and weeks.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) charities and their local partners are among the first responders, working with locally-led relief efforts. Immediate priorities are medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for safe spaces and winter kits with blankets, and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water.

At NatWest Group, our thoughts are with the people and families whose lives have been affected by the earthquake. Here’s how we’re helping our customers and colleagues make donations to the appeal.

How we’re supporting the DEC appeal

  • We will match colleague and customer donations up to £100,000 between now and 30 June 2023 or until the £100,000 has been used.
  • Customers can donate directly to the appeal through the DEC website.
  • We are setting up the facility for Rewards customers to donate to the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake appeal.
  • Colleagues can donate to the appeal through a dedicated internal Sponsor Me page.
  • We offer fee free international payments anywhere in the world on our digital channels.
