A global generosity movement, Giving Tuesday has broken successive world records for the most money donated online to charity in 24 hours. The campaign, organised by the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, encourages people to give their voice, time, or money to support charitable causes. It takes place each year on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday - this year on 3 December 2024.

2024’s theme is ‘Give your way’, encouraging people to get involved in any way they can with charitable causes close to their hearts.

How we’re supporting Giving Tuesday

Since we began our involvement in Giving Tuesday in 2014, we’ve committed over £3.7 million to encourage our colleagues and customers to get involved in this global campaign for good. To continue to celebrate the campaign this year, along with our colleagues’ and customers’ support, we’ll donate £300,000 to charities.

How our colleagues will support

Our colleagues will be encouraged to sign up to our Payroll Giving scheme and donate to charity. The scheme is run through HMRC and provides a simple, tax-efficient way for employees to make regular and one-off donations to charity direct from their salary.

If a UK employee signs up to Payroll Giving or increases their current donation by 31 December 2024, the bank will give them a donation of £100 which they can then donate to charities of their choice. We’ll also be encouraging our colleagues to volunteer their time to support good causes.

How our customers can support

In 2024 so far, our customers have generously donated over £900,000 to charity, with more than £520,000 coming from My Reward donations.

NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland Reward current account customers can support the campaign by exchanging their MyReward points for a charity donation. There are currently sixteen charities to choose from and NatWest Group is making £150,000 available to match customer donations; the bank will match donations up to £50 per customer until 31 December 2024.

Michael Duncan, Head of Giving Strategy & Programmes at NatWest Group, said:

“We are delighted to be a Founding Partner of Giving Tuesday and to once again, for the twelfth year, be involved at the forefront. With the ‘Give your way’ theme this year, we are encouraging our colleagues to get involved in any way they can, giving their time, voice or money to support good causes, as well as matching customer donations to charity on our Rewards current account. We recognise how important Giving Tuesday is in harnessing the power of giving to benefit charities and wider society, and I would encourage everyone to seize the opportunity to do something good for the causes close to their hearts.”
