RBS is the biggest lender to UK SMEs and Marcelino joins the Business Banking division following three consecutive months of lending growth for the first time in four years. Net lending was up £16m in March and overall lending increased by £69m in Q1. This provides a great foundation for Marcelino to build on as he helps RBS to become the number one bank for customer service, trust and advocacy by 2020.
Les Matheson, Chief Executive of Personal and Business Banking said:
"I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Marcelino Castrillo, he will be a great addition to my Executive team and his experience makes him the ideal person to help us continue the progress we’re making to achieve our ambitions. We are the biggest lender to UK SMEs but we want to be the best and Marcelino will play a key role in helping us to reach that goal."
As Managing Director of SME Banking at Santander, Marcelino has been responsible for leading the challenge of scaling Santander’s business bank and has managed the business through a period of significant change.
Prior to working at Santander, Marcelino was Managing Director for Products & Marketing Corporate and Commercial at Santander, and previously also held the post of Director for Mass Market. Before joining Santander, Marcelino worked for The Boston Consulting Group across different countries and industries.
Marcelino Castrillo said: ‘"I am delighted to be joining RBS as it strives to become the best bank for its customers. There is no shortage of exceptional businesses in this country and I look forward to playing a significant role in their future success."
