This appointment is part of the Bank's continued investment in strengthening its research capacity.
Ms. Cui joins RBS from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, where she served primarily as the Head of External Division, responsible for overseeing research on mainland China macro-economic and financial sector issues, as well as cooperation initiatives with the Mainland. Prior to that, she spent eight years at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including most recently as the senior economist focusing on China. Ms. Cui holds a Ph.D in economics from Northwestern University. She will be based in Hong Kong and reports to Sanjay Mathur, Head of Research & Strategy Non-Japan Asia.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Mathur said: "China is a vital part of our research coverage and we have a long tradition of excellence across all asset classes. With more than 10 years of experience in covering China Macro research, Li is a great addition to our team."
In addition to Ms. Cui, RBS will also retain the expertise of Ben Simpfendorfer, who recently left the Bank to pursue his own venture in setting up a consultancy company, Silk Road Associates Limited. Mr. Simpfendorfer will remain closely associated with RBS in a consultative capacity and will work with RBS clients when required.
