Leading LGBT charity, Stonewall, has announced RBS as one of its Top Global Employers.

Stonewall’s Top Global Employers is an annual list showcasing the best multinational employers for lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff. The list is compiled from submissions worldwide to Stonewall’s Global Workplace Equality Index from which Stonewall ranks organisations based on criteria ranging from employee policies and procedure and staff engagement, to understanding of their local context and additional in-country activity.

Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive, Stonewall said: “RBS have demonstrated a real commitment to ensuring that all their lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff and stakeholders feel included at work and we’re delighted to name them as one of our Top Global Employers for 2019. All 14 of these businesses truly are at the forefront of driving global LGBT inclusion in the workplace, which is such a crucial step in getting us closer to LGBT equality.

“There is so much left to do to ensure that lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees feel able to be themselves at work, no matter where they are. We’re proud to work with RBS, who operate in some extremely difficult contexts, to create workplaces that are inclusive and supportive of LGBT people and equality.”

Nicholas Crapp, RBS’ LGBT Executive Sponsor, said: “I am delighted that we have been awarded such a significant accolade which I believe is in recognition of what we have been doing in some of the more challenging jurisdictions.

“We have demonstrated our commitment to LGBT+ inclusivity in India, where we have, where possible, equalised employee policies to ensure that they protect the rights and provide benefits to all our employees irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation or family composition. Last year we organised the first ever Polish LGBT Business Awards to recognise the work being undertaken by activists and big businesses in a challenging cultural context. We also hosted the Pink News reception in Belfast and have supported the campaign to recognise same-sex partnerships and marriage equality in Northern Ireland.

“As a global employer the bank takes its social responsibility to advance the agenda very seriously and will continue to be responsive to issues raised in any of the jurisdictions we operate in. As the LGBT sponsor I am passionate about both our broader role and continuing to champion an inclusive culture.”
