RBS strengthens Asia Pacific Equities business with key hires

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) plc today announced several appointments across its Asia Pacific (APAC) Equities business, a sign of its continued commitment to the growth of the Equities business in the region, including Randolf Clinton as Co-Head of Markets and Head of Equities, Australia. Simon Laugharne, Nicholas Carlton and Tom Turner also join the APAC Equities business in senior roles based in Hong Kong.

Peter Irvine, Head of APAC Equities, commented, "These new hires bring nearly 80 years of combined, multi-market experience in Equities across APAC and add considerable strength to our Equities team. They represent a major step in reinforcing our ongoing commitment to the Equities business, where we see huge growth potential over the coming years".

Mr Clinton was formerly the Head of Cash Equities Asia ex Japan & Head of Equities Distribution APAC for JP Morgan, having also previously held the position of Co-Head of Australian Equities for the same firm. He will report jointly into Peter Irvine and Stephen Williams, Country Executive and Head of Australian Banking.

Stephen Williams commented on Mr Clinton's appointment, "Randolf's broader experience of APAC Equities will allow us to leverage the increasing linkages between Australian and Asian Equities to make RBS a leading participant in the APAC Equity Markets and a trusted and innovative counterparty for clients. His appointment re-iterates the strength of RBS's Equities franchise in Australia and our ability to continue to attract the very top talent".

Mr Laugharne joins RBS as Head of Client Account Management APAC. He was formerly Director of Relationship Management for Hong Kong Equity and sovereign wealth fund (SWF) clients at Deutsche Bank and brings with him 20 years of experience working in Equities and research in APAC.

Nicholas Carlton has been appointed as Head of Corporate Access, Asian Equities. Mr Carlton was Managing Director of Corporate Broking at Macquarie Capital Advisers. He has over 15 years of experience working with Equities and research, at both Macquarie and JP Morgan.

Tom Turner is the newly appointed Head of Facilitation & Cash Equity Trading. Mr Turner's experience in Capital Markets spans 20 years across both APAC and the US, most recently with Merrill Lynch as Director of Asia Regional Equities Trading.

RBS has built a strong Equities franchise in APAC. RBS's Asia Equities house is ranked in the top 7 by publications such as Euroweek, Structured Products Magazine, Asiamoney Structured Products Poll and Finance Asia.
