In his new role Richard will take on responsibility for running the Ulster Bank Retail Markets Business across the island of Ireland, focused on serving the needs of over 1.9m customers through Ulster Bank’s 236 strong branch network.

Richard takes over the role from Mike Bamber who has recently taken up an appointment as Managing Director of Branch Banking for NatWest and RBS Retail in Great Britain.

Richard has over 22 years experience in the financial services industry having joined Ulster Bank in 1989. He has held a number of senior roles including Regional Manager in both personal and business banking in Northern Ireland, and most recently as Managing Director, Personal Banking across the island of Ireland.

Richard is a graduate member of the Institute of Bankers and has the Professional Banking Diploma. He also holds a Business Studies Degree and an Executive MBA from Queens University, Belfast.

Commenting on the appointment Cormac McCarthy, Chief Executive, Ulster Bank, said “I am delighted to announce Richard’s appointment to the position of Chief Executive, Retail Markets. Richard brings with him a broad range of experience from his time spent in various senior roles across the business which will be hugely valuable in his new position. I wish him every success as he takes on the leadership of our Retail Markets business at this critical juncture.”

This appointment is subject to the usual regulatory approvals.
