Our new AI and Data Ethics accreditation builds on our work with the University of Edinburgh, where we created a custom AI and data ethics course for colleagues from across the bank.
The new programme is designed to embed critical skills across NatWest Group to support more consistent outcomes for customers as AI becomes increasingly part of colleagues’ day-to-day work across the bank.
Once complete, our colleagues will receive an internal accreditation in AI and Data Ethics and will be required to undertake ongoing learning as AI capabilities and standards continue to evolve.
Commenting on the launch, our Head of Responsible AI and AI Strategy, Dr Paul Dongha, said:
“As AI becomes increasingly embedded in how we serve customers and run our bank, it’s important that we equip colleagues with the skills and confidence to use it responsibly. Building on our existing AI and data ethics training, this accreditation gives our colleagues even more practical tools to recognise risks, ask the right questions and make better decisions in their day-to-day roles.”
What’s involved in our new AI learning?
- Colleagues will spend two to three months completing eight structured e-learning modules aligned to the bank’s AI Ethics Principles.
- We’ll host a half-day session focused on real-world application for learners.
- Courses will offer practical guidance to help our colleagues identify, assess and manage ethical risks when using AI in day-to-day roles. This includes understanding how to ensure AI-driven decisions are fair and unbiased, and how the data used to train them can influence outcomes.
- The first modules will launch in June 2026 with a full rollout continuing to October 2026.
