Team GB Bobsleigh athlete Leon Greenwood recently inspired Year 10 pupils at Cantell Secondary School in Southampton to think about resilience, motivation and goal setting as part of NatWest Thrive Live.

More than one hundred young people from Cantell joined the NatWest Thrive Live event last week (Monday 02nd March) that focused on building money confidence, future skills and self-belief for young people.

The young learners also enjoyed a Q&A session with the Olympic star as well as taking part in a range of financial education workshops. Sessions included money and mental health, entrepreneurship – and even an interactive escape room, aimed at building knowledge of fraud and scams and how to avoid falling victim to them.

Leon Greenwood, said: “It’s been great seeing so many students really making the most of this opportunity and getting involved. I’ve really enjoyed having a chat with pupils at the NatWest Thrive Live event to talk about the importance of motivation, resilience and goal setting.

“By teaching young people the skills to achieve their goals, as well as how to have resilience and deal with setbacks in order to overcome them, we’re ensuring the generation of tomorrow have a strong foundation to deal with whatever life throws at them – teaching them that anything is possible!”

Cantell School Headteacher, Harry Kutty, said: “It’s essential for young people to develop confidence in managing their finances. The more our students understand the principles of good money management, the better prepared they will be for the future. We’re delighted to welcome NatWest Thrive to our school and to work together in helping our pupils build these vital skills.”

Emily Fuller, Head of NatWest Thrive, said: “Our first NatWest Thrive Live of the year – and our first in a school – was truly inspiring.”

“NatWest Thrive is all about building the self-belief, confidence and skills young people need to own their future. Seeing how engaged the students were, and how enthusiastically they threw themselves into the activities, was incredible. Delivering financial education and future skills in our communities really matters to us at NatWest, because we want to make a genuine, positive difference for young people.”

NatWest Thrive return to Cantell School this week (Wednesday 11th March) for a dedicated volunteer event. NatWest employees will provide personalised career advice and guidance for Year 7 and 10 students, further demonstrating the bank’s commitment to supporting young people’s development both in and beyond the classroom.
