NatWest Group today announces that Matt Austen will join the Group’s Executive Committee as Director of Strategy, Corporate Development and Sustainability on 5th September 2022, reporting directly to CEO, Alison Rose. This position replaces Olly Holbourn, Director of Strategy & Ventures, who is taking up his new role with the Group as Chief Executive of RBSI on 1 July.

Matt joins the bank from global management consultancy Oliver Wyman where he is Managing Partner of the European Financial Services Practice. In his position at Oliver Wyman, Matt led its Financial Services practice in Europe and has over 25 years of consulting experience, during which he has led several major clients through a range of strategic and transformational situations.  Matt’s recent focus has been advising clients on their response to disruption, whether driven by technology, new entrants, regulation, or the geo-political context.

Alison Rose said

“I am delighted to welcome Matt to the team. Matt will bring great experience to the bank, particularly now as we look forward to the next stage of our strategy, building on the great progress of the last two and half years, as well as how we help and support our customers with the cost-of-living crisis.”

Matt Austen added:

“It is a tremendous privilege to be joining NatWest Group at such an important time for the bank and its customers. The bank has an ambitious strategy built on one clear purpose; championing potential, helping people, families, and businesses to thrive. This is more important now than ever before as it develops deeper relationships with its 19 million customers at every stage of their lives.”
