Giving Tuesday, organised by the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, takes place annually on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The worldwide generosity movement has successively broken world records for the most money donated online to charity in one day, with the campaign encouraging people to give their voice, time, or money to support these causes.

In 2023 Giving Tuesday will focus on showcasing and celebrating acts of generosity and spotlighting the different ways people can get involved in charities. Acts can vary from helping a neighbour out, or showing up for an issue for people we care about -  everyone has something they can contribute.

How we’re supporting Giving Tuesday

Since our involvement in Giving Tuesday began in 2014, we’ve encouraged our colleagues  and customers to get involved in this global day of good. This year along with our colleagues’ and customers’ support, we’ll donate £350,000 to charities to support the campaign.

How our colleagues will support

Our colleagues will be encouraged to sign up to our Payroll Giving scheme and donate to charity. The scheme is run through HMRC and provides a simple, tax efficient way for employees to make regular and one-off donations to charity direct from their salary.

If a UK employee signs up for Payroll Giving or increases their current donation by 31 December 2023, the bank will give them a charity donation of £125 which they can then donate to charities of their choice. We’ll also be encouraging our colleagues to volunteer their time to support good causes.

How can customers support?

NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland Reward current account customers can support the campaign by exchanging their MyReward Points for a charity donation. There are currently fourteen charities to choose from and NatWest Group is making £150,000 available to match customer donations; the bank will match donations up to £50 per customer until December 31st 2023.

So far in 2023 our customers have generously donated over £3.37 million for charity, with more than £779,300 of this being from My Reward Donations. Our customers can also give directly through the mobile banking app, which since January has seen over £1.8 million be donated through this method.

Michael Duncan, Head of Giving Strategy & Programmes at NatWest Group, said:

“Giving Tuesday is such an integral part of the charity work that NatWest Group does and we are excited to once again be involved at the forefront. We recognise the importance of charitable work and this Giving Tuesday we will be encouraging our customers and employees to donate and support in any way they can on November 28th and beyond.”
