Founded in 2016, Doc Abode supports Urgent Community Response (UCR) and wider out-of-hospital urgent care pathways by giving teams real-time visibility of workforce capacity and demand, and by streamlining operational coordination across hub and field-based staff. Its web portal and secure smartphone app connect clinical coordinators and community clinicians in a single integrated workflow, enabling the right clinician to reach the right patient at the right time.
Community services deliver the majority of NHS out-of-hospital urgent care contacts, yet teams have often lacked real-time visibility of capacity, demand, and response status. Doc Abode was built to reduce coordination friction, support faster response, and help services deliver more care closer to home, easing pressure on hospital admissions and improving outcomes for patients who can be safely treated in the community.
Doc Abode’s founding CEO Dr Taz Aldawoud, a GP, NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellow, and former Chief Clinical Information Officer at West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, describes the platform as “an air traffic controller for urgent and community care,” helping teams match available clinical capacity to patient need in a safe, integrated, and real-time way.
Doc Abode is a care-coordination platform that gives NHS urgent and community teams real-time capacity visibility, operational communication and workflow to allocate and deliver care more efficiently. By bringing these elements into a single workflow, Doc Abode cuts coordination overhead and helps services respond more consistently during peak periods of demand.
NHS England referenced the North Central London ICB programme’s scaling of Doc Abode in its March 2025 good-practice guidance on standardising community health services, alongside independently evaluated improvements in capacity and productivity. The Health Innovation Network’s national case study sets out results from participating trusts, including a 120% increase in patient visits per shift and the elimination of agency spend. Doc Abode was also awarded £499,971 through the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative’s SBRI Healthcare Phase 3 Urgent and Emergency Care competition, and UCLPartners was commissioned to undertake an independent evaluation of the platform across multiple NHS trusts.
