Glassboxx has secured a £1 million funding package from NatWest. The money will enable the business to invest in its technology platform, advance a significant new AI capability, and accelerate growth with publishers and university presses worldwide.

Glassboxx is a UK technology platform that provides a direct-to-consumer e-commerce and fulfilment platform for publishers. The platform allows publishers to sell print, ebooks, and audio content as individual titles, bundled, or in bulk, through a single, best-in-class global cart and checkout with built-in global tax compliance, helping publishers retain control of customer relationships, pricing, and data while reducing reliance on large global marketplaces.

Glassboxx has established itself as a fast-growing player in publishing technology, working with over 100 publishers and facilitating sales into more than 150 countries. Customers include major publishing brands such as Bloomsbury, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster, alongside world-leading university presses including Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, Yale, Rutgers, Melbourne, Edinburgh and Bristol.

The £1 million funding package includes the refinancing of an existing lending facility and £500,000 of additional growth capital secured against the company's intellectual property.

By creating new highly skilled roles in the Thames Valley, the investment will contribute to local economic growth while helping the business meet increasing customer demand. The funding will also accelerate expansion within the higher education sector, supporting the onboarding of additional university press customers, including opportunities with some of the world's most prestigious academic institutions.

The investment will help Glassboxx strengthen its technology infrastructure, including cloud and DevOps capabilities, platform optimisation, new product functionality and enhanced cyber security measures. Alongside platform investment, Glassboxx is developing a significant AI capability designed to deliver deeper insight and intelligence across its publisher services, enabling publishers to understand and grow their direct audiences at scale. The funding will also support investment in marketing, training and the recruitment of new employees across software development, sales, publisher success and technical support.

The Newbury-based company has switched its banking to NatWest, accessing the bank's specialist intellectual property (IP)-backed lending proposition to support its next phase of expansion.

Darin Brockman, Founder and CEO of Glassboxx, said:

"The publishing industry is changing fast, with publishers, university presses and content creators increasingly looking for ways to build direct relationships with their audiences and take greater control of their revenues. That's exactly what Glassboxx enables.

"This funding will help us accelerate our growth plans, invest further in our platform and create new jobs as we continue to scale. NatWest recognised the value of the technology and intellectual property we've built, and structured a funding solution that gives us the confidence and flexibility to seize the opportunities ahead."

Elizabeth Old, Relationship Manager, NatWest, said:

"GlassBoxx has developed innovative UK technology, built a strong international customer base and is creating highly skilled jobs in the region.

"At NatWest, we're committed to backing businesses to scale and, in doing so, drive growth in local economies. When companies like GlassBoxx invest in technology, create jobs and expand internationally, the benefits are felt far beyond the business itself, through stronger regional economies, new opportunities for local talent and the retention of skilled workers in the local area.

"Our IP-backed lending proposition helps innovative businesses unlock the value of their intellectual property and access the funding they need to grow. We're proud to be supporting GlassBoxx as it continues its expansion and strengthens its position as a global leader in digital content distribution."

High-growth, tech-led businesses have historically faced challenges securing lending compared with more traditional firms that hold conventional assets like machinery or property. NatWest's innovative IP lending solution is designed to address this funding gap, allowing high-growth businesses to borrow against the value of their intellectual property and helping fast-growing, asset-light businesses reach their full potential.
